Humm… do you mind if I take your last email and post it to my blog (stripping out your name of course). It’s the best analysis I’ve seen on Iowa yet, period.

On Obama, you have to admit, his ability to get first time caucus goers out and supporting him was an amazing thing to see. I really thought that would be his Achilles: relying on the youth and first timers. Instead, it turned into his greatest strength. Is it possible he could do that nationally? If so, he will truly have earned 1600 Penn.

Yes, I am very concerned about our side. We're transforming, before our very eyes, into a Party of populism (Huck), fear (Tancredo's immigration stance), reliance on government (Rudy's authoritarian answers; Huck again). What happened to actually winning people's support based on the merits of your ideas? Your philosophy? We're becoming the Democrats circa 1930. That didn't work out too well.

Yes, you are spot on: these folks are voting for their pastor; not our Nation's leader. Ask Catholics in Boston how much they'd trust their pastors???

Well, I’m not sure where I stand on all of this. On the Dem side… it’s great to see Hillary get served. If the next president has to be a Dem, I wouldn’t mind Obama at all.

But when it comes to our side, I’m very worried. What concerns me the most is not that Huckabee won, per se… but something like 80% of those that turned out identified themselves as evangelical. That in itself doesn’t concern me… hell, technically, I’m evangelical too (well, not really). But the point here is that these are the types who are clearly voting “for jesus” and not for America. You know?

Amazing isn't it. Iowans just sent their votes towards a guy whose only answer to the pressing issues is his love of Jesus. While I spiritually am comforted by that, I have yet to see the Almighty raise a veto pen.

Ugh. This is so frustrating. But, I predicted he'd win by 2 points. Didn't guess he'd win by 10-11. I guess I am even further more libertarian than the Party actually is. But, on the good side: Thompson garnered a 3rd place finish and Paul had double-digits.

How about Obama? A black man, on a positive message, gets a bunch of corn-fed farmers to vote for him. I don't care for his policies at all, but I was happy to see that actually come about. And Clinton be defeated, of course.

What are your thoughts?
